In the world of gay online dating, your race affects your romantic and sexual connections, whether your potential partners realize it or not. One queer man of color I know is half-Indian and half-Italian with a common Indian name. But in online dating profiles he racism in gay dating a common English first name and an Italian surname. Another person I know is Black but has self-identified as mixed-race on Grindr because he gets little attention when he identifies himself as Black. These are just a few stories that illustrate the effects of racism within online dating communities comprising mostly gay men.
Gay dating app Grindr has received negative backlash in the past over the amount of discriminatory language and abuse that is unfortunately hosted on the app. An enormous amount of users have spoken out about various instances of racismageism, body-shaming, stigmatisation of HIV-positive menand many other forms of discrimination. Examples range from men including stipulations such as 'no fats, no femmes, no Asians' racism in gay dating their bios, to some men sending non-white users messages that include slurs, inappropriate "jokes" and comments, and even threats. The dating app has released a new video series called 'What the Flip', where two gay men of different backgrounds swap profiles so they can see the treatment the other receives on a regular basis. Our hope is to raise awareness around the problems modern gay men face online and in real life and be a part of the discourse that works to create more tolerance and empathy for diversity in the online dating world. The first video in the series shows a white gay man and an Asian gay man swapping profiles, and the results are eye-opening. The white user used an Asian man's Grindr profile for a day, and was confronted with slurs and stereotypes he'd never heard before. The white user explains to host Billy Francesca that he received far less interest as an Asian man, and ended up having to ask race-related questions like 'Are you into Asians?
R acism is a serious problem within the LGBT community and needs to be addressed. Despite the determination of many minority ethnic LGBT people to do just that, it is not happening. But another far more pernicious reason is that the LGBT world revolves around white gay men to the exclusion racism in gay dating others.

Many people in the Arab community spoke about ethnic stereotypes.
